6 Management Practices That Can Improve Employees Morale And Performance

June 19, 2019

The Management in any organization always tries to keep the morale of their employees high. This is to improve their productivity and performance. Morale and performance are strongly related. They play important factors to decide the success or failure of the company. Morale if affected can’t be fixed overnight, but there are a few strategic ways you can improve it over time. Now let’s see the 6 management practices that can improve employee morale and performance.

1.Effective Communication

With the help of good communication among managers and employees, it becomes clear where the company is, where it needs to be in the future and what steps need to be taken to get there. It can bind employees together. If the staff are talking with each other on the job, that’s a major step towards building a good team. Employees who look forward to talking with their colleagues are more enthused about coming to work. If they know they can talk to the boss about problems and that the boss will listen, that binds them to the company. Good communication builds teams and increases employee loyalty.

2.Recognizing And Rewarding Employees

Most employee recognition programs tend to focus on celebrating individual employees, however, the best programs allow individual employees to recognize their colleagues as well. When individuals are empowered to recognize and reward their colleagues, the bonds of team spirit are strengthened resulting in enhanced teamwork and increased productivity. This encourages the employees to put in their best efforts not just for their employees but also their peers.

3.Increase Vacations

The vacations themselves also serve as a form of stress relief. Encouraging your employees to take regular vacations helps keep their stress levels down, which in turn reduces their risk of developing both physical and mental health risks over time. The thought of going on vacation is enough for most workers to feel better about their positions which leads to increased employee retention and higher rates of productivity.

4.Feedback

Providing staffers with constructive feedback can help improve overall performance and productivity. It can also create an effective channel for communication and help employees increase skills and knowledge, improving job satisfaction and reducing turnover. The way feedback is structured and delivered can have an impact on its effectiveness. Giving feedback, through formal reviews and everyday interaction, can provide an opportunity to communicate. This reduces the potential for miscommunication, poor performance, low productivity or errors.

5.Fun Activities

Fun activities for employees to boost teamwork don’t have to take a lot of time out of the workday, or even require too much organization. Playing games like truth or dare, chess, face painting, marshmallow etc like that can make employees relax and chill. These types of activities allow people to interact with each other on a level that can build stronger professional bonds.

6.Evaluate

Evaluation is a nonstop activity that includes a specific cycle of steps.  The primary purpose of the evaluation is to measure progress and determine what needs improving. The continuous evaluation includes, but is not limited to, the measurement of attitudes, morale, and motivation of the workforce.  It includes the identification of problem areas needing improvement and the design and implementation of an improvement plan. Good organizations conduct a job satisfaction survey at least once a year.

The common theme in all the points mentioned above is giving recognition and rewards to your workforce. Build a strong and healthy relationship with your workforce, success is sure to follow.
